If you’ve ever doubted the power of angels, take a look at Diva Lena Horne as she pours her heart & soul into encouraging Dorothy, played by Diva Diana Ross, in The Wiz. That’s what legacy living is all about.
Who encouraged you? Who said those 4 important words: I believe in you!
Pass It On!
Thank you for posting this video. Lena Horne has been a favorite of mine for years. What a classy lady, and she has left all women a legacy to remember.
I also believe that we must first love and believe in ourselves before we can believe in anything, or anyone else. I consider myself a Pragmatic Existentialist, which means I do believe in free will, but I am not a pessimistic Kierkegaardian / Kafkaesque Existentialist. I like what you write because it tends to match my own philosophy that an individual is solely responsible for giving their own life meaning by living that life passionately and sincerely, while being always mindful of others. Am I close?
Mimi, I also believe that we must first love & believe in ourselves. I also believe that love is one of few things that multiplies when we give it away. And similar to you, I believe we are meant to live with passionate intention, infused by God’s love & legacy for us.
I so appreciate “hearing” your voice across the miles… & that you’re still using that exquisite vision, seeing with the eyes of your heart.
Blessings, Mimi.

Gloria,
Thanks for paying tribute to Lena Horne. What a remarkable woman she was and a role model to us all, especially women. I had the privilege of working with her years ago when I was a back-up dancer for a TV commercial that she did. She was not only physically beautiful, but I remember thinking to myself, here is a woman who has overcome so many challenges in her life, yet she still can radiate beauty and strength out to all of us. I know for myself that it has been role models like Lena Horne that have shown me what is possible when you believe in yourself and the gifts you have been given. I am fortunate to have two loving parents, married over 50 years whose belief in me and my gifts help to lay a loving foundation for me to build on and it allowed me to know that I could do whatever I set my mind to. Today, I am blessed to be able to pay it forward through the coaching work that I do for executives, allowing them a safe haven to share their challenges, their fears, and their desires….and helping them to rediscover themselves so they better support themselves, their people and their community. When you believe in yourself and surround yourself in a community of others who also believe in you, anything is possible!
Susan ~ Lovely to hear your voice across the miles. What a wonderful experience to have danced with Ms. Horne. She paved the way for so many… African-Americans as well as other peoples of color. What I especially love about Ms. Horne is her unflagging devotion & commitment to human rights–her own & others’. More than a diva, even now Lena shows us what it means to be a Queen–her dignity, radiance, brilliance, & belief in hope & possibility continue to light the way!
